Who we are

Established on 20 February 2024 by Presidential Decree No. 100/034, SOPEBU’s mission is to ensure stable, equitable, and secure supply of petroleum products across the entire national territory.

It coordinates imports and centralises all national orders to ensure effective management of energy resources. SOPEBU is also responsible for storing and distributing fuel, while building a strategic reserve to strengthen Burundi’s energy security.

With a view to optimisation and regional development, it also oversees the re-export of surpluses not consumed on the local market.
